How do I fine-tune (optimize) a document’s index to better match the URL resource to specific searches and questions?

The vast majority on indexed URL content will not require any manual data modification or fine-tuning.

However, if you find that some of your documents are not being returned as top matches on specific searches and/or those documents are being returned on searches that are not directly relevant, we recommend removing the index field content and adding a summary paragraph about the meaning of the document.

You can also add any additional content such as specific keywords or phrases that are related to the intent and meaning of the document.

When editing a document, you can use the automated Search Excerpt generator to assist you on creating the more relevant summary information.

You can also use the REST API to automatically add or update specific content to the resource URL either manually or from your CMS or ecommerce platform.

Limiting the URL resource’s index to content that specifically describers the item or service and removing any non-related content will increase the accuracy of the AI responses in relation to that URL.

For example, if your products are not being returned for specific searches, it may be due to the non-primary content on the page such as cross-selling lists “skewing” the index (meaning of the resource).

We recommend that if you experience issues with product-specific searches, you clean your product’s indexes by adding only the product title, description and complimentary information such as specs and SKUs.

You can also use the dedicated SKU field to ensure that an item gets returned on the top of the results list for the exact term or terms. More Information on SKU & Keyword Targeting.
